If you like cup stacking as a pastime, you may be keen to learn how to do a speed stack cycle to speed up your progress. This article will explain how to arrange the piles and work through them quickly.
Steps

1Arrange the cups in three piles. From left to right, the piles should have three cups, then six cups, then another pile of three cups.^{[1] X Research source }

2Build the first pyramid by taking one of the piles of three cups. You then take one cup in each hand and place one next to the bottom cup and place the other cup on top of the two cups that are next to each other on the ground.Advertisement

3Build the second pyramid. It must contain six cups. Start by picking up three cups in one hand, and three cups in the other hand. Place one of the three cups in your hand next to the one cup that did not get picked up, then place another cup from the other hand next to the middle cup. Keep putting cups down, changing hand each time. The final pyramid should have three cups on the bottom, then two cups in the middle, then one cup on the top.^{[2] X Research source }

4Reach the final pile. This must be arranged into another pyramid containing three cups (as explained in step 2).

5Go back to the pyramid you started on. Take it down into a pile of three again. Work your way along the pyramids until you are back to your original threesixthree piles.

6Join the two piles of three cups together to make two piles of six cups.

7Build two pyramids consisting of six cups each. The method for building this is explained above.

8Take the two pyramids down and join the two piles of six cups together, making one pile of twelve.

9Take two cups off the top of the pile, one in each hand and place them each side of the pile. Leave enough room to build a large pyramid.

10Pick up five cups in one hand and four cups in the other. Starting with the hand with five cups in it, but changing hands each time, place the cups down so that you have four on the bottom, then three cups, then two cups, then one on the top.^{[3] X Research source }

11To take this down, slide the top cup down to the right until it has reached the bottom in a pile of four cups. There will be a pile of six cups left. Slide the top cup to the left, until it reaches the bottom in a pile of three, then make another pile of three with the pyramid left.^{[4] X Research source }
 If done correctly, from left to right you should have one cup, a pile of four cups, a pile of three cups, another pile of three cups, then one cup.

12Place the two cups on the ends on the pile of four. This will turn it into a pile of six.

13Rearrange the order so that you are back to the order that you started at (threesixthree).

14Keep practicing this over and over. The more you practice, the faster you will get at stacking the cups.Advertisement

QuestionHow do I do the 1 10 1?Coach DaveCommunity AnswerImage 10 above shows it pretty clearly. After the 66, down stack into one stack. Then put the top 2 to either side. Take 5 in one hand, 4 in the other and build the 10 stack. Then the outside cups are used to down stack back into 363.

QuestionWhat should I do if the cups get stuck?Community AnswerThe cups shouldn’t get stuck, but if they do, then this could be indicative of your grip being too tight. I would try holding the cups more loosely.

QuestionIs there another way to down stack a sixsix and go into a 10?Community AnswerYes, after you down stack your six, put them all together, take two off, put them on opposite sides, then build up your pyramid.
